What Komatsu forklifts actually need from a tyre

Komatsu runs a wide spread of forklift models — the FG and FD diesel and LPG counterbalance range, the FB electric range, the bigger eight-tonne-plus diesel machines you’ll see around the Durban port and the South Durban basin. Each one was specced around a particular tyre size and type, and that’s the bit most buyers get wrong when they replace on price alone.

Here’s the short version of why it matters. A counterbalance forklift carries its rated load partly because of where its centre of gravity sits, and tyre diameter is part of that calculation. Fit a tyre that’s even slightly off-spec and you change the lift geometry, the stability under load, and how the mast behaves at height. On a smaller warehouse FB you might fit a cushion or solid press-on; on an FD diesel working an outdoor yard you almost certainly want a pneumatic or a solid pneumatic-profile tyre that can take the rough ground. Getting that wrong isn’t a comfort issue — it’s a safety one.

You choose fitment.

Bring the wheels to our Pinetown workshop, or arrange on-site fitment at your premises. We'll agree a time that limits your downtime.

We fit and check.

Correct seating, rim inspection, and a check that everything's right before the machine goes back to work. For pneumatics we set the correct pressure and show your operator what to watch.
