Manitou builds a wide spread of forklifts, and they don’t all run the same rubber. An MI 25 G shuffling pallets on a smooth slab needs something completely different from a rough-terrain unit working a building site in the rain. Get the tyre wrong and you’re either replacing it early or fighting the machine all day. Here’s how we sort it.

Solid (Press-On) Tyres

These are the workhorses for indoor Manitou forklifts and electric units. They're hydraulically pressed onto the wheel band, they don't puncture, and they last. If your Manitou spends its life on a warehouse floor or a concrete yard, this is almost always the right call. We carry press-ons in the common Manitou sizes and can press them on at our Pinetown workshop or bring the gear to you. Puncture-related downtime simply stops being a thing with solid tyres. For a single-machine operation that's convenient; for a fleet, it's real money saved over a year.

Pneumatic and solid-pneumatic tyres

Manitou's larger and rough-terrain machines are built to work outside, and that's where pneumatics earn their keep. Air-filled pneumatics give you cushioning and grip on uneven ground. Where punctures are a constant headache — think sites with offcuts, nails, sharp aggregate — we'll usually steer you towards solid-pneumatic (resilient) tyres instead. Same outdoor footprint, none of the flats. We'll talk through your actual working surface before recommending either. A pneumatic that's perfect for a timber yard is the wrong answer for a scrapyard, and we'd rather tell you that upfront than have you back in a fortnight.

Non-marking (white) tyres

If your Manitou works anywhere clean — food handling, pharmaceutical storage, polished retail-distribution floors — black tyres leave streaks that someone then has to scrub off. Non-marking tyres use a carbon-free rubber compound that protects the floor without giving up much in the way of durability. We supply and fit these in the relevant Manitou sizes too.

Repairs, swaps and worn-tyre assessments

Not every job is a fresh set. Sometimes a tyre's got life left and just needs an honest look. We assess wear, check for sidewall damage, and tell you straight whether it's a repair, a rotation, or a replacement. We won't sell you four new tyres when two will do — but we also won't sign off a tyre that's a safety risk.

Getting the Size Right on a Manitou

This trips people up more than anything else, so it’s worth a moment. Forklift tyres aren’t sized like car tyres. A press-on (cushion) tyre is described by three numbers — outside diameter, width, and the inside band diameter — for example 18x6x12.125. Pneumatics use a different convention again.

The size you need is stamped on the sidewall of your existing tyre, and it’s usually also on the machine’s spec plate. If you can read it off and send it through, we can quote immediately. If you can’t find it, we’ll measure and verify during a service visit. Whatever you do, don’t guess — a Manitou wheel and frame are built for one tyre family, and a press-on machine won’t take a pneumatic or the other way around.
